Discussion on Swimming Pool Lighting Design
Lighting design details of swimming pools and similar buildings:
First of all, do not neglect the safety of human life. For swimming pools and swimming pools, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards and the national JGJ/T16-92 standards have included them in special environments. The country also has special regulations for the safety of lamps in such places, "Safety Requirements for Lamps in Swimming Pools and Similar Places" (GB7000.8-1997).
1. The particularity of swimming pool lighting
The swimming pool is a particularly humid place. This kind of place is full of moisture and condensed water often appears, which is easy to cause leakage or short circuit due to the decline of the insulation level of the lamps. The human body impedance is also significantly reduced due to skin soaking, and the risk of electric shock is greatly increased. Therefore, sufficient attention should be paid to the electrical safety of such places.
According to the degree of electrical hazard, the swimming pool is divided into four areas:
0) Zone-inside the pool;
1) 1) Zone-2m from the edge of the pool, and its height stops at a height of 2.5m that can be reached by humans. For jumping platforms or chutes, the range of this zone includes the edge of 1.5m and the height of 2.5m;
2) Zone-within the horizontal and vertical plane from Zone 1 to 1.5m away from Zone 1, the height ends at 2.5m above the ground or reachable by people;
3) Zone-within the horizontal and vertical plane from Zone 2 to 2.4m from Zone 1, and from Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 higher than 2.5m to the top surface.
In zone 0, only isolated extra-low voltage (SELV, ungrounded extra-low voltage) of 12V and below is allowed to supply power. The power supply (such as extra-low voltage transformer) should be located outside zone 0, zone 0 and zone 1. Sockets are not allowed. Sockets in Zone 2 should be powered by isolated extra-low voltage or protected by a leakage protector with rated operating current IΔn≤30mA.
Local equipotential bonding (LEB) should be made in zone 0, zone 1, and zone 2. See the national standard drawing on page 10 of "Equipotential Bonding Installation" (02D501-2). Electrics such as lamps and lanterns should have the following waterproof grades:
0) The zone is IPX8 (it can dive for a long time under the conditions specified by the manufacturer);
1) The zone is IPX4 (water splashing in any direction has no harmful effects);
2) The zone is IPX2 level (when the enclosure is tilted within 15° from the normal position, vertical dripping will have no harmful effects);
3) The area is IPX1 (vertical dripping has no harmful effects).
Secondly, we need to meet the lighting requirements while avoiding glare effects while performing lighting design and rendering the atmosphere of the space.
2. Lighting method of swimming pool:
We have to deal with the glare effect caused by the reflection of the swimming pool water surface. The intensity of the glare is proportional to the incident angle formed by the light and the water surface.
Therefore, avoid using light sources installed on the wall as swimming pool lighting. Because of the large incident angle, the light cannot penetrate the water well and will reflect glare. It is best to install an IP21 waterproof point light source on the ceiling for swimming pool lighting or use a point light source on the pool side pillar to illuminate the ceiling and reduce the incident angle of the light into the pool through reflection. At the same time, set IP68 level 12V waterproofing in the pool The light source is used for swimming pool lighting.

If funds permit, it is recommended to use fiber-optic point light sources in the pool. This is safe (the fiber-optic point light sources have no voltage) and is easy to maintain. It can also render the water blue, green, and yellow as needed to create a better mood.
The illuminance of the swimming pool in the hotel should be controlled at about 150LX, and the illuminance standard of the swimming pool should be determined according to various competition events and competition levels. Generally, the illuminance of the swimming pool for training is controlled at about 600LX, the illuminance of the swimming pool for competition is controlled at about 1200LX, and the illuminance of the swimming pool that needs color TV broadcast is controlled at about 1800LX.
The floor lights in Zone 1 and Zone 2 outside the swimming pool and the spotlights for tree-throwing should use IP54 waterproof lamps. If possible, it is best to use optical fiber point light sources. The wall washer should be equipped with a 40～80W waterproof PAR lamp with a waterproof lamp holder meeting the IP21 level, and the projection direction should be opposite to the swimming pool. Emergency lighting should be considered for the ceiling, and the waterproof point light source lamps meeting IPX1 level should be used, and some lamp troughs should be used, or the waterproof spotlight meeting IP22 level should be installed on the pillar to make the luminous ceiling, but the fluorescent lamp in the lamp trough should be used to meet the requirements YG4-1 fluorescent lamp of IPX1 level. The lighting and sockets in Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 shall be protected with leakage current of IΔn≤30mA. Non-metallic pipes should be used for wiring to achieve the purpose of double insulation of the wires.
